The aim of the specialization is to provide the knowledge and understanding necessary to develop and manage hospitality and healthcare facilities in a context of senior living.

As the proportion of the world’s population over 60 years is expected to nearly double from 12% to 22% between 2015 and 2050, the industry will present extensive career and development opportunities for many disciplines and professions.

The new specialization will be offered at both Bachelor’s and Master’s level and will feature courses on different aspects of managing retirement communities. The courses offered in the specialization include Social Gerontology – The Study of Aging, Operations Management for Senior Living Facilities and Managing Health and Changing Lifestyles.

In line with Hotel Institute Montreux’s practice of partnering with the leading industry organizations to develop its programs, this specialization will be delivered in collaboration with Resort Lifestyle Communities (RLC). RLC builds and manages luxurious, all-inclusive resort-style retirement communities across the United States of America. The company will assist with the creation of the course content, hold guest lectures and make a number of internships and jobs available to HIM students.

This latest development expands Hotel Institute Montreux’s educational offer that previously included three specializations (Finance, Human Resources and Luxury Brand Management). The new course will fully equip graduates to enter the growing health and aged care industry thanks to the combination of Swiss hospitality excellence and deep understanding of the senior population’s values, needs and requirements.
